EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT is based on a new discovery that has provided thousands with relief from pain, diseases and emotional issues. Simply stated, it is an emotional version of acupuncture except that needles are not necessary. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. The process is easy to memorize and is portable so you can do it anywhere. It launches off the EFT Discovery Statement which says:

"The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system"

And because our physical pains and diseases are so obviously connected with our emotions the following statement has also proven to be true:

"Our unresolved negative emotions are major contributors to most physical pains and diseases"

History of EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique

All energy therapies can be traced from Acupressure and Shiatsu. The therapies developed independently but alongside each other in China and Japan respectively.

There are various "modern" energy therapies that have developed from these therapies, of which EFT is one, kinesiology another, also Thought Field Therapy (TFT).

Gary Craig - Founder of Emotional Freedom TechniqueIn the 1980's, Dr Roger Callahan began investigating Eastern health practices, specifically, those that involved tapping on meridian points, the same points used by Acupuncture and Shiatsu. He had a particular success with a lady called Mary who had suffered from a phobia of water for some years before being treated with TFT.

Callahan spent some years developing his therapy and called it "Thought Field Therapy". A number of therapists who studied with Callahan went on to develop further therapies from Callahan's ideas.

One therapy stood out as being very simple and freely available to all. That is "Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)" which was developed by Gary Craig (Pictured left), who was originally a trained Engineer turned "personal trainer" who had trained with Callahan.

EFT Treatment and what to expect

A client wishing to address their emotional or physical issue/s, (some times a physical problem has an emotional origin), comes for a consultation and treatment. At the first visit, a full medical consultation is taken. I then discuss the client's reasons for visiting and explore all the aspects, as the original problem may not be the ultimate cause. We have many facets to our personalities.

We formulate an affirmation relating to the problems and using the acupressure points, tap on each one till the problem has been relieved. A client may need up to three sessions depending on the individual and problems to be addressed, however, great strides can be made in one appointment.

Possible reactions to EFT

There are no known reactions to EFT that you need to be concerned about. The client may feel very tired, yawn or even cry. This is just a release of all the negativity that has accumulated over time. In fact, client's faces show complete relaxation and relief! There are one or two issues that a client may be suffering from and particular care must be taken, but this is unusual.

EFT can be used to treat:

** The person with symptoms of a serious health issue, can be helped by alleviating the negative feelings around the ailment. We do this by exploring each feeling/thought individually, and using affirmations.

Cat Animals can have Emotional Freedom Technique treatmentEFT treatments can be given over the phone and also by surrogate, which means I can use myself in place of the person to tap on. Ideally, most therapies are better in person, but sometimes that is not possible and then we can work this way.

EFT treatments can also be given to groups of people, this aids many aspects that clients may have to be all dealt with at once.

EFT is also suitable treatment for animals and their related problems. I or the owner can tap on themselves in place of the animal.

A client should NEVER stop taking their medication without a General Practitioner or Consultant's advice.
